Catherine Ryland BSc (Hons) Dip TP GDBP MPIA BPAD Level 3

Catherine Ryland is an experienced Level 3 Bushfire Planning and Design accredited consultant. Catherine specialises in strategic bushfire planning and understands the process of assessing bushfire risk on a landscape scale and creating solutions for ongoing mitigation. Catherine is also experienced in both preparing and reviewing bushfire assessment reports for subdivision, Special Fire Protection Purpose development, single dwellings and alterations/additions, as well as Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Certificates for complying development. Author of the revised version of Planning for Bush Fire Protection 2019, Catherine has a full, working knowledge of the document and the standards for bushfire protection planning in NSW. 

Catherine is an experienced trainer and facilitator and regularly leads workshops on bushfire protection planning. Engaged recently by the NSW Department for Planning, Industry and the Environment to provide bushfire protection training to council staff in NSW, Catherine is able to effectively communicate bushfire protection planning standards and processes to many different audiences. Catherine also leads the Planning Institute of Australia NSW’s ‘Planning for Bushfire Resilience’ and ‘Planning for Climate Change Resilience’ workshops.  

Catherine is an industry leading expert in land use planning and bushfire protection. Catherine sits on the NSW Divisional Committee for the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) and represented PIA at the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements.
